R & R in AR

On Monday, the girls and I took a 6 hour drive to Arkansas and met up with Luke, my brother & his family and my parents. It was a relaxing home just for pastor's families to retreat.
We ate a lot, played games, watched movies, read books and occasionally left the home to see the Ozark mountains. One day we took a drive into Little Rock and went to the zoo to feed the fish...
and ride on the "choo choo"...
We ate at one of our favoritest places ever... (Chickfila)
We enjoyed relaxing and resting with some of our favoritest people ever... (Aunt Stephanie in this particular moment)
Thank you God for providing places of rest, just when we need it most.

Parental Rights







There are so many reasons why parents need to have the freedom to educate and care for and teach their children as they choose. HERE IS the first reason:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

The PARENTAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT:

SECTION 1
The liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right.

SECTION 2
Neither the United States nor any State shall infringe upon this right without demonstrating that its governmental interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served.

SECTION 3
No treaty may be adopted nor shall any source of international law be employed to supersede, modify, interpret, or apply to the rights guaranteed by this article.

THE YEAR 1909

One hundred years ago.
What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1909 :

The average life expectancy was 47 years.

Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

The average wage in 1909 was 22 cents per hour.

The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year ..

Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo. (EWwwww)

Five leading causes of death were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea (WHAT?)
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars.

Parental Rights

Today I did something I rarely do. I contacted my senators. There is a treaty that the UN wants all nations to ratify called the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child. So far since '89, every nation has ratified it except the US & Somalia. I have been studying this all day on ParentalRights.org because of this letter that just came out today and I'm trying to understand more about it. Here is an explanation and more info from here:

"The UNCRC is an international treaty focused on promoting the rights of children and seeking to give children priority in the implementation of governmental measures. The Convention claims to offer a road map that will guide government officials in the improvement of laws and policies, by defining which rights the government should give to children."

"This poses a serious threat both to parental rights and to U.S. sovereignty, as the UNCRC dictates not only that the federal government must intrude into the family sphere to an unprecedented degree, but also how the federal government is to monitor and govern the actions of our families. Parental rights would be replaced by "the best interests of the child" as defined, ultimately, by an international committee of 18 people in Switzerland."

The solution is an amendment to keep the UN from controlling our children called the Parental Rights Amendment and I asked my senators to please oppose the UNCRC and support this amendment. You can sign the petition here. And pray. May God bless America.

2009 Miss America Pageant

I only caught the end of the pageant, which is the only part I care about really, but I heard that her talent was outstanding!  This is the winner, Miss Indiana, singing "Via Dolorosa", an old Sandi Patty favorite.  She had been fighting a throat infection and this just proves... when you go out intending to give God the glory, He always blesses.
